Honest comparison
They show your bill. Outcap shrinks it.
Most LLM proxies are excellent observers, gateways, or governance tools. Outcap does ONE thing none of them do natively: intelligently cap output length, learned route by route. Here's the table — no cheating — and when to pick the others.
The difference in one line
They trace, route, cache and block. Outcap acts on the request: it learns your responses' real length (p99 × margin) and trims the waste cleanly, before you pay.
Cost control, capability by capability

When to choose another tool (honestly)
Helicone
For deep observability: traces, sessions, evals, dashboards. Note: in maintenance mode since its Mintlify acquisition (2026).
Portkey
For a large team wanting governance, guardrails and compliance at scale. Note: being acquired by Palo Alto Networks, pivoting to agent security.
LiteLLM
For a self-hosted gateway to 100+ providers, if you can run Postgres + Redis and manage YAML config.
When to choose Outcap
When your problem is the bill itself: responses that run long and cost you, and you want it fixed automatically — drop-in, no infra to run, in dry-run first so you can prove the savings before anything changes.
What Outcap doesn't do (yet)
Outcap is a focused tool, not a platform: no full observability, two providers (OpenAI + Anthropic), and a young beta with no long production track record. If you want everything in one place, these mature platforms are the better pick today.
